But this signing most likely will mean that the Padres are ready to either re-negotiate a contract with Brian Giles who is comimg back from a Microfracture sugury in his hand (either that or his shoulder). Since getting rid of his brother Marcus, he has been very quiet about going after new players (as he has talked frequently about this the past few seasons). He is also aging (36, going to be 37 on January 20th)I myself am confused about riding of Giles but Understand it because of the team wanting to move into a new direction. I agree with you Eli, the Padres would be smart to go after Andrew Jones, as he has been Petco Parks most productive hitter since the park opened in 2004. But Kevin Towers is fairly conservative about offering Free Agents a deal longer than 3-4 years, which is why we wont sign him to a long deal and are talking with Aaron Rowand about a 4 year 55-60 million dollar contract.
