I think bullpen depth is more important to the Mets big picture than a slightly above average horse SP. Sure Blanton may pitch into the late innings every fifth day, but what about the games that Pedro and El Duque start? Now you have Matt Wise and Scott Schoenweiss trying to mop up those games. It seems like a lateral move for the Mets at best if Heilman is involved, at the cost of two of the Mets top three prospects. Plus I don't particularly see why Heilman would be particularly attractive. He'll essentially be a marginally cheaper version of Street.

I would however consider giving up just about the same thing I'd give straight up for Santana for Blanton and Street. Heilman probably can't fit in with the A's as well as the Twins, but I'd be willing to start with Mulvey, Gomez, and anyone besides Fernando Martinez. Maybe Mike Pelfrey and Jon Niese or Phil Humber and Deolis Guerra to fill out the back end. Probably even throw in a Nick Evans or Mike Carp type for good measure.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37446836.post-75826075158449697992008-01-05T21:55:00.000-06:002008-01-05T21:55:00.000-06:00Eli- what happened to Garcia I thought they were c...Eli-

what happened to Garcia I thought they were close, has that fallen apart.

Is Blanton your speculation or is that what youv'e heard from a source.

Is it Blanton or Gacia or are both in the mix...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37446836.post-13554447612454690262008-01-05T17:36:00.000-06:002008-01-05T17:36:00.000-06:00Pagan is speedy, but not necessarily that great. T...Pagan is speedy, but not necessarily that great. To be honest, as a Cub fan, I'm kind of surprised we got something for him. After all, we got him from the Mets just for money. He is a useful, speedy back up. But he had a few mental OF errors over the course of last year as well as base running blunders. Also doesnt stand out in my mind as a decent hitter off the bench. Does have a little pop. But he did have some sort of viral infection last year, so who knows, maybe he can be better than he's showed so far.

As for who we got back, I know they arent top rated prospects, but based on their numbers, looks like a good deal to me. Of course they are still far enough away where we dont know if they can continue to develop, but works for me.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00909889581099318748noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37446836.post-62513139865310933952008-01-05T16:49:00.000-06:002008-01-05T16:49:00.000-06:00Coles is an outfielder.Coles is an outfielder.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37446836.post-53895570194589356162008-01-05T16:11:00.000-06:002008-01-05T16:11:00.000-06:00i really hope mets get blanton.pedroblantonperezma...i really hope mets get blanton.

pedro
blanton
perez
maine
pelfrey/which ever young guy we'd keep/lieber/garcia/colon/whomever.

seems good enough to win the division

im a big blanton to mets fanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
