Still on the Block? Penny Baffles Marlins

Monday, May 7, 2007

After months of speculation that the Dodgers were going to trade Brady Penny, Penny proved that he can be the ace of any rotation. Brad Penny struck out a career high 14 Marlins and only allowed five base runners in seven shutout innings of work. Penny is now 4-0 with a 1.39 ERA and became the first Dodger since 2002 to have four wins, and zero losses. Kaz Ishii was the last starter to do it back in 2002. Penny not only pitched a gem, but he was able to get on Marlins pitching, getting a 2 RBI single. Rookie Andy LaRoche drove in two runs, but might be out for tomorrow after being hit in the hand in the eighth inning. The Dodgers will send Mark Hendrickson to the mound tomorrow for the second game of a four game series against Wes Obermueller and the Marlins. The Dodgers are up 1.5 games in the division while the Marlins are 5.5 games behind the Braves and the Mets.
