Rockies Acquire Lopez

Friday, January 12, 2007

The Rockies are close to acquiring Rodrigo Lopez from the Orioles for Jim Miller and Jason Burch. Lopez went 9-18 with a 5.90 ERA with the Orioles last season but his numbers are some what deceiving. Yes Coors Field is a hitters ball park and having a 5.90 ERA should not help the Rockies, but he is an innings eater and in his previous two years, he has a combined record of 29-21 with a 4.24 ERA. The Orioles now have a much better bullpen so Lopez probabably would have been able to turn around his terrible year, but the Rockies show a lot of potential and might be able to provide some solid run support.

The Nationals have agreed to terms with Jerome Williams and Brandon Claussen.
