Devil Rays to Sign Cabrera

Saturday, August 11, 2007

The Indians placed pitcher Fernando Cabrera on release waivers last week and the Devil Rays were quick to act already making it known that they are ready to sign him come Monday. Cabrera, who was 1-2 with a 5.61 ERA in twenty-four games does possess the stuff to be successful. "We tried to be as patient as we could with Fernando," Indians assistant GM Chris Antonetti told Cleveland writers. "He's still going to be a very good major-league pitcher, but he needs to get regular work. We were not able to give him that regular work." Cabrera, 25, is also drawing interest from the Orioles and Mets.

he would be better served going to the Orioles. Mazzone could do wonders with him.

yeah i agree. having mazzone on your team really gives you some flexibility on who you can bring in.
