Dodgers Lose Schmidt

Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Bad sign? Jason Schmidt came into Spring Training and was not bringing the same heat that everyone thought he would. It carried over into the season and he's gone 1-2 with a 7.36 ERA. This lead to an MRI which came up negative, but the Dodgers plan to give him a couple days off. "We are going to give it a few days to let it [shoulder inflammation] calm down. Hopefully it's just a short term thing," Dodgers manager Grady Little said. Schmidt, who's now on the DL, was 11-9 last year with the Giants, with a 3.59 ERA.

Well I was pretty sure that this was gonna happen to Schmidt this year. In his seasons in SF he was a workhorse averaging close to 200 innings a year and his velocity dropped every year from 97-98 in 2003 to 88-89 in 06
