Report: Blue Jays Release Thomas

Sunday, April 20, 2008

According to ESPNews, the Blue Jays are set to released DH Frank Thomas. This comes just days after being bench for hitting .167 with 3 HR. This is very surprising because historically, Thomas is not very good in April or May, but starts to heat up in June. He hit .277 with 26 homeruns last season, but coming into June 1st was hitting .221 with 8 HR. From that point on he hit .301 with 18 HR, so he can definitely still hit, he is just off to a slow start.

The Tigers and Mariners are the two best destinations. The Mariners really need a right handed power hitter to complement hot hitting lefty Raul Ibanez. Gary Sheffield of the Tigers could be out for an extended amount of time, so Thomas is an option there. Don't be surprised if a team like the Yankees comes in and makes a play. Jason Giambi is not playing well right now and he could platoon with Johnny Damon at first. This would give Hideki Matsui, who is off to a good start, more at-bats. Maybe it is a stretch, but if Thomas is going to put up similar numbers, he could be the X-factor that gives them the division.

Barry Bonds to Toronto makes the most sense at this point.

That's what I was gonna say. Bonds to Toronto.

I think Bonds has a better shot in Oakland. Cust looks more like a one hit wonder and Sweeney isn't showing much signs of power. Bonds gives them lefty power they need.

No chance he goes to the yankees because the DH is matsui because his D is to bad to play everyday so unless u think Frank playing first is a good idea him to the yankees is not a good idea

Thomas' days as 1B are done, I could see him DHing for about five clubs, the Rays, Orioles, Tigers, Angels, and Twins for starters, the Yankees will not make a play unless Matsui or Giambi go down soon. Bonds could catch on with Toronto but their team is still a bit young to deal with his antics.

Bonds is a cancer, he is not going anywhere. NO ONE IS DESPERATE ENOUGH TO WANT BONDS.
Thomas is done also. Toronto let him go because he couldn't hit anymore.

With the HR race over with, the Bonds circus will be so much smaller. Remember how little coverage he & the Giants got last year after he set the record? I don't see bringing him as a bad thing for any club now that the HR race is over. He's just be a great DH & a good 4th OF.

The circus will come back when he nears 3000 hits

bonds never did steroids, hgh or any of that stuff. he's been clean the whole time. 762 deserves no asterisk.

lmao at never did steroids. you should do research before you talk, he admitted to "accidentally" taking the clear.

clear don't mean anything he is clean of everything just ask him himself and he'll tell you
1) BONDS 762
2) AARON 755
3) RUTH 714

I don't think that Bonds will be going to Toronto. I mean wouldn't that be like trading an aging hitter for another one? Besides, with all the "stuff" that comes with Bonds, he will definitely not be heading to Toronto.
