Cubs Chatter

Saturday, November 18, 2006

Jim Hendry remained in Naples on Friday to close out the GM Meetings and to talk with some free agents. According to the Daily Herald, the Cubs have had "normal chats" with Soriano's reps and are hoping they can sign him. However, Soriano wants 100+ for six to seven years. J.D. Drew is also drawing a lot of interest, just not from the Cubs. The Cubs are setting their sights on Soriano and if that fails, Drew will be the next on their list. Now that the Cubs have acquired Cotts, they only need one, maybe two pitchers. They now have more money to pursue a pitcher like Schmidt (if they want to), or they could settle for two mid-level pitchers like Lilly and/or Wolf. This will also give the Cubs some more money to offer Soriano.
