Lilly Signs With Cubs

Wednesday, December 6, 2006

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs and Ted Lilly have reached a preliminary agreement on a 4 year deal, worth 40 million dollars. Lilly went 15-13 last season with a 4.31 ERA. This could help their chances of signing Gil Meche who has said he wouldn't mind playing for Pineilla again. Lilly will be their number 2 starter behind Carlos Zambrano. According to reports earlier, Lilly would have accepted a Yankees offer. But Yankee officials probably thought it was not worth the risk for a 59-58 career pitcher for four years.

It will be interesting to see how he does pitching in the NL central. Considering his numbers for the AL east, I'm hopeful. You gotta figure his ERA drops below 4.
