Cubs After Marquis

Thursday, December 7, 2006

Jim Hendry will spend the night at the hospital and then head home to work out a deal with Jason Marquis. Hendry worked deals from his hospital bed last night signing Ted Lilly and Daryle Ward. Since he lost out on Gil Meche, he will pursue Plan B, which is Jason Marquis. Marquis pitched for the Cardinals last year going 14-16 with a 6.02 ERA and 96 K. Over the past three years with the Cardinals, Marquis has gone 42-37 with a 4.62 ERA in 602.2 innings. The intial offer to Marquis was reportedly a three year deal worth 28-30 million dollars.

Marquis for ten mil a season is rediculous. hes mediocre at best

I agree, a 14-16 player shouldn't get that offer.

He'll be better than you think.

that is alittle much, but if meche can get 11 million a year, i guess marquis can command that much

I like it better than giving Gil Meche $11 million. If the Cubs can sign him and get 13-15 wins from him, then I think it is a good deal.
