Padres Closing In On Peavy Extension

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Padres and Jake Peavy are closing in on a three year extension worth 17 million dollars annually that will keep him locked up until 2013. "We're moving closer," Peavy's agent, Barry Axelrod, told FOXSports.com. This is a great move on the Padres part. This money is well earned and Peavy is young and capable of being a solid pitcher for the next decade.

I dont know the Padre's payroll, but I do know paying 1 guy 20% of the payroll is not a good idea, no matter how good. Part of the reason why the Twins are trading Santana, they can't afford to pay 1 guy that much, especially a guy who play once every 5 days. Greater pitcher, but also a great risk.
