According to ESPN.com, Milwaukee, Atlanta and Texas are among the clubs in the mix for outfielder Dave Roberts. Texas would like him to take over Mathews's role in center. At first, the Cubs showed interest but they have set their sights on Alfonso Soriano. His agent plans to meet with them by the end of the month.

The Phillies have contacted Adam Eaton to start in their rotation next season. The Phillies, like the Cubs, are looking to sign these "second-tier pitchers" so they can throw more money at Soriano. Adam Eaton, Ted Lilly, and Vicente Padilla are all pitchers both teams are looking to sign. For the Cubs, they are extremely serious about bring Kei Igawa over from Japan to pitch for them.
