Padres Close to Deal with Wolf

Saturday, December 1, 2007

The Padres are closing in on a one year deal with pitcher Randy Wolf. Wolf, who is coming off shoulder surgery, finished 9-6 with a 4.73 ERA in 18 starts and is expected to be ready for spring training. The Padres seem to be looking for pitchers who will come cheap, but who have the potential to be solid pitchers. They have been in contact with Matt Clement and the Cubs about Mark Prior, among others. Wolf lives in Southern California, but was drawing serious interest from the Phillies before signing.
