Giants Fire Sale Update
Friday, May 30, 2008
The Giants are starting to make some noise about a fire sale. Here is what they are doing as of late:
- Giants GM Brian Sabean recently told reporters that veteran players Randy Winn, Ray Durham, and Rich Aurilia are all available. All three are not big impact players, but could be picked up if there is an injury on a different team.
- The Giants have some interest in Angels DH Juan Rivera, but nothing is serious just yet.
- The Giants have told several teams that all relievers except Brian Wilson are available. So take your pick of Tyler Walker, Jack Taschner and Vinnie Chulk. Sabean also said that Triple-A pitchers Erick Threets and Brad Hennessey are available as well.

I don't see why the Giants would be interested in a 29 year old Juan Rivera.
LF has been claimed by good play by Fred Lewis. Rowand isn't going nowhere so CF is set. Winn is in RF and if he's traded, Nate Schierholtz is the new starting RF. Plus there is Ortmeier to consider too, if Rivera is a backup. Plus, he has no speed.
So his only plus is power and there is no place to start him, thus at 29 it would not be worth getting him unless the Angels are accepting some low level A-ball prospect without much promise, else why should the Giants trade for him when there is little need for him on the team?
I'm sick of hearing you say "fire sale". You over use the term wayyyyy too much. Can you just say rebuilding or they're just trying to trade a couple of players. You've said it like a hundred times already, and really it never happens. Teams dont just trade all of their players at one time! Even if they are that bad!
