Can the Cardinals Repeat?

Friday, November 10, 2006

Again it is too early to say, but as of right now, they might not make the playoffs. Houston and Milwaukee seem to be improving and the ever so hopeful Cubs might make a push. The Cards are reportedly close to a deal with Edmonds but are not close with Jeff Suppan, Jeff Weaver, Mark Mulder, Jason Marquis, Preston Wilson, and Ronnie Belliard. Most of the players will command serious money in the offseason. Look at A.J. Burnett, he got 55 million after barely half a season and Jeff Suppan and Jeff Weaver, both had full season, and dominated the post season. How much could they command? I say, if they can get half these guys with Al Reyes and a free agent aquistion, there is no doubt in my mind that La Russa, with help from Pujols, Rolen, and Edmonds, could make a serious playoff run.
